Fifteen of our Northampton Judo Academy players took on the challenge at the BJC Regional Championships in Nottingham — and what a day it was! For many, it was their first-ever competition, yet they delivered astonishing results and showed incredible spirit throughout.
Competing under BJC rules adds an extra layer of difficulty, as coaches aren’t allowed to give advice during contests. That means our Judokas must rely entirely on their training, instincts, and composure on the mat. It’s a true test of independence — and our players rose to it brilliantly. The experience not only helps them trust their own judgement but also gives our coaches valuable insight into areas to refine for future competitions.
Our players made us proud — and even more proud of the team spirit they showed throughout the day. They supported each other through every fight, learned more about the different BJC contest rules together, and stepped out of their comfort zones. It was great to see them not only competing hard but also making new friends, showing respect, and cheering on their opponents — true spirit of judo at its best.

An outstanding set of results for such a young team, and a fantastic learning experience for everyone involved. We’re proud of each competitor’s determination, sportsmanship, and attitude on the day.
Congratulations to all who stepped onto the mat — your efforts make our judo club proud. On to the next challenge!
