Monthly randori is now part of our permanent schedule

We’re excited to make it official – our monthly randori sessions are now a permanent part of the Northampton Judo Academy timetable.

Randori has always been one of the most important parts of judo, and now it has a fixed place in our calendar.

Every second Monday of the month
7:00pm – 8:30pm
Ages 12+ (teens and adults)

This session is open to our members and visiting judokas, giving everyone access to a wider range of training partners and styles.

What is randori?

Randori is live judo practice where techniques come out of drills and into real movement.

Instead of stopping after every throw or grip, both players keep moving, adapting, attacking, defending, and problem-solving in real time. It’s controlled, respectful, and safe – but it’s also unpredictable, which is exactly what makes it valuable.

Why we’ve made it permanent

We’ve seen huge value in these sessions.

By opening randori to visiting clubs and outside players, we bring variety into the room. Different styles, different grips, different rhythms that challenges everyone.

For our teens and cadets, and competitive squad, this means:

  • More realistic match-style training
  • Exposure to unfamiliar opponents
  • Better preparation for competitions

For visitors, it means:

  • A high-quality randori session in a focused training environment
  • A chance to train with our growing competitive club
  • A welcoming place to get strong, technical rounds in

Who it’s for

Randori night is open to:

  • All levels of judo
  • Ages 12+
  • Teens, cadets, and adults
  • Northampton Judo Academy members and visiting players over 12 year old

Whether you are building confidence, preparing for competition, or simply want better live practice, this session fits.
